Snow Safety and Avalanche Awareness

This one-day workshop, conveniently planned on a Washoe School District professional development day, will give your child winter survival life skills to help them stay safe out there skiing and riding in or beyond the resort boundary. Students will be exposed to avalanche terrain recognition, mountain route finding, understanding snowpack and weather, risk management evaluation and the use of safety and rescue gear. Students will also be exposed to ski area avalanche mitigation techniques including ski cutting, blasting and others.
This course is designed for any child age 10 and above with at least intermediate skiing skill and an interest in learning more about personal and group safety in a winter environment. The course will be conducted at the world-renowned Palisades Tahoe Resort and include lift tickets. In order to support a high-quality, high-engagement program, enrollment will be limited to less than adozen students.
Tuition for this course is $189 and includes transportation from Reno to Palisades Tahoe roundtrip.
