The long awaited post about our second session of Backcountry Camp!
Sorry about the delay, I got busy trying to finish our house that we are building and completely spaced getting these uploaded. Thanks to the mom of one of the campers for the gentle nudge – you know who you are 🙂
Our second session of BC was a great success! Climbing, camping under the stars, hiking, cliff jumping, ancient petroglyphs, sleeping on the catwalk of a fire lookout tower…Backcountry Camp had it all! This was a great group of campers who mostly all already knew each other, but they accepted and got along with those who were new to the group. They were all super tough and capable as we weathered the heat and steep hikes to get to our destinations. Even the smoke on the last day could not get them down. It just made an amazing experience even more memorable as we adjusted our plans (hello lunch at a real restaurant!). Not many people can say they have experienced what the BC Campers did during this camp. Spending several days in the beautiful Lost Sierra and seeing only one other person in the course of 3 days. Seeing petroglyphs that are 8,000 years old (yes, there are supposed to be three zeros in that number!). Then spending the night on a Lookout Tower that only a small percentage of people in the world can say they have even hiked to, let alone slept on. And through the whole week, even the last day with the smoke, they all kept up their good spirits and fun humor.
We hope all the BC campers come back again next year!
The campers were a great group who mostly all already knew each other from school, but accepted and got along with those who were new to the group. They were all so tough and capable as we weathered the heat and steep climbs. But the rewards were worth it. Not many people people get to experience the area we were camped in the first 3 nights. And only a handful of people in the world can say they have slept ON the Lookout Tower. What an experience! Even the smoke that came in during our last night could not dampen the campers’ spirits. It just meant we needed to adjust our plans somewhat that last day. And it just made an amazing experience just that much more memorable.
We hope to see all of our BC Campers back again next year!
