So proud of all the members of the Pioneer High School Ski Team that made it to Squaw this Wednesday. From the “never-evers” to advanced skiers like Casey, every student enjoyed significant insights on not only skiing, but life itself. The ability to stay in control, know where you are and where you want to go, the ability to get back up one more time than the number of times you’ve fallen… these are all important life lessons that grow out of our unique ski team experience. Rather than just a “day on the slopes” we strive to immerse students in lessons that help them back at school, their community and ultimately, their life. As an extra benefit of the ski team experience students are allowed to participate in the first practice irregardless of grades, after that though their participation is dependent on them fulfilling their academic responsibilities first and foremost. In this way ski team has become a motivator for better academic performance.
Thanks to Program Director Cary Jorden and field staff: Danielle Langum, John Corbitt and Kristen Steinkraus for their wonderful devotion to the program as well as the unqualified support of PHS Principal Jason Zona in making it happen year after year.
