Brand New Location!
The Lost Sierra River Camp
Our Newly Updated River Camp makes a wonderful first time away from home Overnight Camp for your camper! After a few years of Rocks, Ropes and Boats Day Camp under their belt, it’s often time for a new adventure. This camp is based in the Feather River Canyon at our Project Discovery West field campus on the North Fork of the Feather River and provides the perfect opportunity for a child’s first away camp.
River Camp is a perfect choice to give your child a chance to experience a more traditional summer camp experience at an ecologically friendly off-the-grid facility. Access is by boat or aerial tram plus a short hike in and offers swimming, tubing and the ever-popular mega camp rope swing. Play on the river will be augmented by some light duty rock climbing, rappelling and a chance to hike into and explore the beauty of the Emerald Pool and its water slides.
Day One will be at Project Discovery to help the team get to know and support one another and to realize that everyone on the team matters. Toward the end of the day campers will load up and make their way to the Lost Sierra near Quincy, California. Once at camp they will learn about what it takes to live “off the grid” creating one’s own electricity through hydro power and enjoy the magic of the night sky full of a million stars. The rest of the week will be spent on the river swimming, tubing, as well as trying their hand at fishing or gold panning if they are interested. Meals will be cooked on a hundred year old wood stove or by campfire with campers learning how to make their own stick bread and other outdoor cookery secrets. All campers will take turns learning how to help prepare hearty outdoor meals and will participate in a group community service project.
Group gear and all food will be provided with the exception of breakfast and lunch on the first day. Backpacks, Sleeping Bags, and Pads available to rent.
All Project Discovery Camps not only provide campers a great adventure in the Northern Sierras area but also focus on helping students find and celebrate their own leadership strengths, both as individuals and as team members. All camp weeks end with an appreciation circle celebrating each camper’s accomplishments and growth during the week. Program goals include improving leadership skills, responsibility, self-confidence, communication skills and of course, the making of new friendships. Our overarching goal is to help children discover their strengths, work on their weaknesses and make new friends under the blue skies of a Sierra summer.
