This week’s heat wave and the melting snowpack has us thinking about summer more than ever. Our popular Rocks, Ropes and Boats summer day camps are rapidly filling so we have added a third session from July 24th – 28th. The camp includes outdoor adventures for kids ages 7 to 13. Here’s an overview of the camp schedule:
- Monday & Tuesday: The first two days of this program will be spent at the Project Discovery Ropes Challenge Course at Sky Tavern. This course is one of the largest challenge courses in the country and offers fun and exciting leadership opportunities like a ride down a 550’ zip line, a double trapeze bar and many team elements up high for all to enjoy. Students will also learn how to belay in a supervised team setting and how to climb and balance on dozens of exciting elements.
- Wednesday: Students will spend the day at a safe, beginning rock climbing site. Students will use the skills learned on the ropes course and will apply it to real rocks at a well-supervised and safe location. This beginning rock climbing area is a great place to practice the art of rappelling and rock climbing followed by some cooling off with some water play.
- Thursday: Participants will attempt a summit team climb a local peak and visit a waterfall along the way. Campers not up to the Summit Challenge will spend time in Environmental Education activities on a creek and at a frog pond.
- Friday: The week will conclude with an exciting day on the crystal clear waters of Lake Tahoe where students will construct their own boat and learn about water safety and other travel skills. This last day on the water is a time to enjoy new friendships and relive adventures the group has shared together.
Three sessions of Rocks, Ropes and Boats are now being offered, and here’s their status as of May 2nd:
Session 1 • July 10-14 – Only two spaces are left for this session
Session 2 • July 17-21 – This camp is full except to those that can provide their own transportation
Session 3 • July 24-28 – Just opened for registration
We are unable to offer our High Adventure camp this season due to very high flows on local streams and rivers due to the record snowpack. We also pulled the Tahoe Leadership Academy off the schedule this season due to limited interest. The regular price rate for Rocks, Ropes and Boats camps is $475 through June 15th.
