Rocks, Ropes & Boats Summer Camp: Week One

Our summer camp programs have continued to expand each year. Our partnership with Move Mountains brought together 40 kids from Reno and Lake Tahoe for our first week of camp. It was our biggest enrollment yet!

That's a lot of severe weather alerts for one week!
That’s a lot of severe weather alerts for one week!

During the week, campers spent two days building their teams, support and trust at the Project Discovery ropes course. Skills were then put to the test with a day of wild weather and rock climbing in the Truckee River Canyon. Our scheduled hike to Mount Rose was replaced by a day at the Carson Valley Hot Springs, as snow was forecast for the summit. We finished the week with a chilly kayak day on Tahoe, with a background of new snowfall on Mount Tallac. We’re sure it’s a week our campers, or our staff, will not forget! The Reno NWS office posted that there were approximately 50 severe weather alerts over the last week!

Here’s our first batch of photos – we expect that there will be more. Our ability to get out cameras and take pictures was limited due some very heavy bouts of rain and hail during the week. 🙂
